The Man Who Music’d:

Synopsis:

The Man Who Music’d is a comedy about Benjamin Cleft who grew up in small town, where everyone knows everyone. They also know that Benjamin emits music from his ears to fit the scene of any situation. After Benjamin’s friends all move away, Benjamin decides it’s time to move away to the big city! A place he’s dreamed of living for years. When Benjamin gets there he finds that fitting in is the least of his worries, when his childhood best friend, Marty, is in need of help from Jet’s clutches!

Character Breakdown

Main Characters:

Benjamin, 20’s, is the protagonist of the story. He’s the spitting image of a man right out of the 40’s. He’s your classic gentleman, and likes to keep things neat and orderly. Oh, music also comes out of his ears to fit the scene of any situation. Ben struggles with his new life in the big city. Although, trying to fit in turns out to be the least of his worries.  (For more character info please go to http://www.cletzenbougen.com/projects)

Character Breakdown
ALLIE SMITH: 16-year-old female (daughter). She is coming to an age where she wants to be treated like an adult, but she does not know the first thing about responsibility. Her father passed away 6 months prior to when this movie takes place. She does not believe there is a God. She lost faith when her dad died. Her transformation happens at the end of the film when she realizes how much she took her family for granted, especially her mom.
LYNNE SMITH: Mid 40s mother and widower. She has a tendency to get walked on by those who are bolder than her.  Her individual point of view is that she believes that there definitely is a God. She has been numb since her husband died, and her only reality is God. The transformation she goes through and experiences by the end of the movie is that she starts to understand the mistakes she made as a mother and forms a relationship with her daughter.
MICHAEL LAWSON: A stranger in his mid-20s who comes to live with the family on their farm. He is quite the charmer, knowing his way around words and how to get into the hearts of those around him. He sees a family of people he can manipulate to get what he wants. His dramatic need is self-fulfillment. He does not believe that there is a God, nor does he believe he will be punished for any sort of sins he has committed on this earth. His transformation happens when he realizes he has to take what he wants, and no one can stand in his way.
RILAN SMITH: 12-year-old son. He is still young enough to be curious and ok with adverse situations that he is not used to. He wants to be the man of the family but is never put in that position since he is still so young. His dramatic need is to become a man, not just the small boy he is. His mind is still young and malleable. He finds his grandpa a huge inspiration with how to live his life. His view on life is very positive even in the midst of negativity. His transformation comes at the end of the film when he realizes he must become a man to survive in this new world.
LEE SMITH: The grandfather, early to mid-70s, Lynne’s father-in-law. He is a man of strong convictions. He holds the family unit together with a sort of peace and gentleness. . His transformation is when he starts to see the true side of human nature, which is not the good hearted people he believed in at first.
HELEN SMITH: The grandmother, late 60s, Lynne’s mother-in-law. She is a smart woman and knows people. She has a way of knowing what her husband wants and being able to get what she wants. Her dramatic need is one for power. She claims to be Christian, but more so because her husband is and she was raised Christian too, so she fears hell. Her transformation happens when she realizes she is not as strong as she thought she was and must confront the man who threatens her family.
RUSS SMITH (minor role): The father, mid 40s, who passed away 6 months prior to these events. He was the pillar of the family, holding them together. When he died, a part of everyone in the family died as well. In the film, he is at peace with his own death.
4 SOLDIERS: Men, ages 18+, any ethnicity. These men just follow orders and do what they are told. They do not question if what they are doing is moral or not.
