One-Year Film Programs
Sedona Film School (SFS) film studies programs will let you hit the ground running. You will be in the field honing your filmmaking skills within the first three weeks of school. We believe in hands-on training and learning by doing. You will learn the craft of filmmaking through on-set mentorship.
Film students in the SFS program get a real-world filming experience along with film analysis lectures and software training. We believe that the best film education environment is one that prepares its students for life on a movie set.
Our film studies curriculum is hands-on and intensive. Students are living and breathing filmmaking everyday. Weekly projects involve film analysis and scriptwriting, pre-production, production, evaluation of dailies and review of your final edit. Each week builds on the previous project.
Experienced faculty and staff, exciting guest speakers, and industry professionals will guide your filmmaking education. At SFS we believe in the power of doing; students learn best when they can put a concept into practice right away. You will not spend two or three years in a classroom dreaming about equipment. You will pick up gear and spend your time making movies!
Each week in our film school you will learn more about the craft of filmmaking AND you will put it into practice that same week! This hands-on, kinesthetic-style of learning is what allows SFS students to cover the equivalent of a three or four year program in less than a year. You hear it, you see it, and you do it–no waiting until your senior year.
Graduates of the Sedona Film School are well versed in set etiquette, industry terminology and a HUGE array of equipment. Our alumni can walk onto any set and get the job done.

Learn from Experience
SFS faculty, adjunct faculty and mentors are experienced industry professionals. Instructors schedule projects around the curriculum to keep their skills sharp and bring you the latest industry information. You will have the opportunity to learn from their real-world experience.
Our faculty and industry mentors have been honored with nominations and wins including Oscars, Emmy awards, Golden Globes, American Society of Cinematographers awards, MTV Movie Awards, BAFTA Awards, Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films awards, Berlin International Film Festival awards, and more. Your instructors have the experience to guide you to becoming a successful filmmaker.
SFS works with a wonderful Advisory Board filled with film industry leaders and business owners. The Board’s input helps us keep our programs up-to-date and flexible. The independent film world is constantly evolving and SFS is uniquely positioned to keep pace.
The film school also partners with the Sedona International Film Festival each year. SFS hosts several film program workshops and occasionally serves as a satellite screening location. Students enjoy rubbing elbows with independent filmmakers from across the globe and some of our graduates have been fortunate enough to get their films accepted into the film festival!
